DEFINITION

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that are produced by all cells and contain metabolites, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. They play a role in both healthy and unhealthy intercellular communication as well as numerous aspects of cell biology.They are known for their ability to kill tumour cells without any priming or prior activation. Additionally, they secrete cytokines such as IFNγ and TNFα, which activate other immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells to enhance the immune response. NK cells not only protect against disease but are also an important aspect of a healthy body.
